Grape Variety: 100% Pinot Noir
Vineyard Region: Orange NSW Australia
Oak Maturation: Partly barrel fermentation and maturation in new and aged French oak casks.
The wine is brilliant deep crimson red in colour with a tinge of brick brown. The wine demonstrates the benefits of using many traditional French Burgundy winemaking techniques, comprising of barrel fermentation, extended lees and skin contact, malolactic fermentation, and hot fermentation. These methods have been used on part of the wine and then blended to the major portion of fresh Australian style of Pinot Noir. This blending has produced a very complex wine, showing cherry, spice and strawberry like varietal fruit aromas with ‘sweet’ vanillin oak characters.
A full flavoured medium bodied wine, with great length and solid structure, offering soft cherry and plum like ripe Pinot Noir flavours, complemented by fine grained tannins and attractive lingering oak characters finishing with a crisp acidity. The wine is a good example of cold climate Australian Pinot Noir from the cold climate of Orange. It provides immediate drinking pleasure, or alternatively, it will continue to gain complexity with up to 10 years cellaring.
